How to Configure USB Wifi

Sun Oct 06, 2013 6:11 pm

I have been trying to configure my raspberry pi to work as an AirPrint server for Apple products - which much work, the goal was finally reached. However, I need to connect my Pi to an Ethernet connection.

I have a spare USB Wifi adapter (Dell 1450) and have tried to use it to connect to the internet. However, when I plug it in to my Pi and go to "WifiConfig" (I am running raspbian), the USB adapter is not recognized by the Pi and does not show up in the list of adapters. It goes without saying that it cannot connect to the internet when plugged into my Pi.

What do I do to set up the Wifi adapter properly so it can find and connect to my wifi?

Post the output of the following two commands after removing and re-inserting the dongle:

dmesg |tail
lsusb

This will allow people to see if the device is being recognised correctly.
