Raspberry and power usb suply

Wed Sep 18, 2013 8:54 pm

ih,
i have a power usb problem:
my configuration: raspberry, power supply AC 1A, hd 2,5" external usb self-powered, wi-pi wireless adapter.

i can connect both usb device and start raspberry as usually. but after a couple of hours raspberry became unreachable in ssh and if i power on the monitor it show a black screen. i think it's a power supply problem (wi-pi + usb hd). i read in this forum that can be some solution by means of some mods on cmdline.txt

can you tell me more so i can solve this problem and use both wi-pi and usb hd?

thanks so much in advance.

The external USB drive must have it's own power supply OR you must use a powered USB HUB. There is no other way to run a USB hard disk on the RPi.
There is nothing in any config files that will fix power issues... perhaps you were confusing the no display symptom?
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.

You are almost certainly pulling too much power through the input fuse. Because you are only pulling a bit too much, the fuse takes an hour or two to trigger.

Both of the devices that you have plugged in to the USB are fairly power-hungry, especially the hard-disk. The RaspPi only has 200mA budgeted for both of them, whereas they could each expect to be able to use 500mA.

http://elinux.org/RPi_Powered_USB_Hubs

'Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 4-Port Hub F5U234 Revision 3 2.6A Power Supply' very stable !

(I us the Brlkin to power the Pi with a "USB Hub to micro-USB Cable", which leaves the other 3 ports for WiFi, Bluetooth and Keyboard RF Sender..)
Searching is easy, most questions have been asked before !
