unable to boot when automatically mounting usb via fstab

Wed Aug 28, 2013 3:49 pm

I get this weird issue:

My raspberry pi seems to be on boot loop or doesn't boot at all when I have a usb hard drive plugged into it. My hard drive has an external power source and the raspberry pi power source can draw up to 1 Amp, if that's any issue.

But normally it will boot without the usb or if I plug it in and mount it manually. However, restarting the pi and mounting automatically using fstab will most likely cause the pi to not boot.

Has anyone encountered this and can help?

+1 to RaTTUS' question.

Also are you sure the issue is FSTAB at all? I had a similar issue caused by the backfeeding of power from the external drive interfering with the power from the micro USB power supply port on the pi. In the end I was able to power the pi and the drive from the drive's power supply.
