.xsession file is not executed

At first I was able to create a .xsession file in my home directory and it would run in place of the normal desktop session. However, now for some reason it won't run and I am getting an xsession error every time I login. Does anyone know what's going on?

Ok, I just reinstalled Raspbian and got the same error message in .xsession-errors file on first boot. I also did some research and as it turns out the Raspberry Pi running Raspbian, the default menu file is /usr/share/lxde/openbox/menu.xml, which doesn't exist. I am still not sure why .xsession wasn't loading, but all is well now.

So was the fix the re-installation, or did you have to do something extra (i.e. make the menu.xml file) to get it working?

In my case I reinstalled. There is no /usr/share/lxde/openbox/menu.xml file on the raspberry pi, so you will always get that error. I nevered figured out what the issue was, but menu.xml had nothing to do with .xession not executing.
