4G Dongle - Alcatel L800Z - use as a modem?

Fri Aug 09, 2013 9:02 pm

Hello,

I have been given a new modem dongle and I would like if possible to get it work with my pi.

It is an Alcatel OneTouch L800Z. Like most of these it first shows on a Windows machine as a USB CD, then once the software is installed it becomes an ethernet port.

Having searched I think I need usb_modeswitch to change it over in Wheezy and as such I have apt-get usb_modeswitch.

I am now stuck as I can't find the ID's it needs (or what to with them when I know what they are :) ).

The last message that widows event log has for this is
Driver Management has concluded the process to add Service usb_rndisx for Device Instance ID USB\VID_1BBB&PID_0195&MI_00\7&1BA77EA6&0&0000 with the following status: 0.

When doing a lsusb it shows as 1bbb:0195. I also see it as /dev/sda

I can see in ifconfig that therer is a usb0 and the first 3 pairs of the mac are registed to alcatel but it doesnt have the 192.168.1.1 it normally gets in windows

Any help very welcome, thanks

Still not working but an update.

Added usb0 inet dhcp to /etc/network/interfaces

This has given usb0 an ip address of 192.168.1.x and the gateway 192.168.1.1 is ping-able.

I can also see in route : default 192.168.1.

but I still can't connect to the internet.

Suggestions welcome, thank you.

Is it connected to 2 networks perhaps?

If you're ssh-ing via the ethernet port (i.e. the pi connected to another network) that network may be conflicting.
