Ethernet dies with midi controller

Hi,
I'm having an issue with my PI where the ethernet dies when I plug in a small MIDI controller. Once the MIDI controller is plugged in I can no longer connect to it via ssh on ethernet. Here is the controller I'm using:

This was happening with this battery:

Is the pi being underpowered by the battery? I tested it and it is getting 5V even under load with the MIDI controller. Does someone recommend a better battery?

Where are you measuring 5 volts? At the battery or between the TP1 and TP2 points on the RPi? If the former what voltage do you measure at the latter with the controller plugged in?

Either way it looks like the battery is OK so no need to get a better one.
