RPi overheating spikes?

Mon Jul 29, 2013 8:41 pm

Hi,

on my RaspberryPi model ''B'' I am runing rrdtool to monitor and create graphs of CPU temperature. It is having a spikes to 84 degrees of Celsius (see attached image). Is this normal? I am not aware of any CPU intensive task.

I am using this command to gather CPU temperature:
cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp | head -c 2

ISTR this being discussed previously on these forums and the conclusion being that some bug/anomaly is occasionally giving a false reading.

I'm glad I found this thread because I am having exactly the same issue. Both my Raspberrys' CPUs allegedly hit 84.7 during the last 24h. The fact the the reading was 84.7 for both is rather suspicious and tends to point to an error rather than a genuine temperature reading.

This is a reporting bug. The temperature doesn't really spike. See:
https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/issues/132
https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/issues/133

For now just ignore resulkts with that value.

Same problem for me with the spikes, using Xively. Thanks for link to the bug.
