Re: Forked-daapd audio

Sun Apr 22, 2012 7:54 pm

Hi

I am currently trying to get forked-daapd working but I am struggling with the audio.

I currently have it installed and running, serving music from a memory stick, the library appears in iTunes on other computers on the network and I have an iPad with the Apple "Remote" app paired so I can control the music.

What I would really like is to use the iPad to control the music being played locally from the Pi!

However when I try to play a song the log file gives:[2012-04-22 20:26:20] laudio: cannot find card '0'[2012-04-22 20:26:20] laudio: function snd_func_card_driver ret$
[2012-04-22 20:26:20] player: Could not open local audio
[2012-04-22 20:26:20] player: Could not activate local audio output In the config I have just left:card = "default" Any Ideas?I understand that the audio drivers are very alpha currently but it would be nice to get something outputting even if it does crash.I have enabled audio by modprobe snd_bcm2835 and have had music playing. I aim to write up how I got it all set up once its all working if any one is interested in doing something similar. Hope that makes sense, any help would be greatly appreciated! I am running the latest debian image CheerGreg

In the tutorials or guides section of the wiki preferably.

Does this work as an AirTunes receiver?  I'm looking for something that will allow me to stream music from my iTunes library to the pi.

I don't think it does, it will stream from the Pi to iTunes, or play locally out of the pi controllable by an iPhone/iPad.

It think https://github.com/albertz/shairport will do what you want, its in the Debian testing repository's, let us know how you get on.

Cheers, I'll give it a try later or in the week and report back.

don't you want it running the other way too?  so that other Apple (yuck) mobile devices can stream from the raspi?
Steve N – binatone mk4->intellivision->zx81->spectrum->cbm64->cpc6128->520stfm->pc->raspi ?

Would this work for using the raspberry in place of having a 'running' copy of iTunes on the network, so i can stream music from Nas to airport express

Hi pr1sm,

Thanks for your great guide to install forked-daapd, I followed it on my board and ran into the same problem you appeared to struggle with where the connection was dropped frequently.
Apparently this is a common problem with the code and is discussed in depth here https://github.com/jasonmc/forked-daapd/issues/19

The solution appears to be to compile a fixed version of the code as is guided through here https://github.com/jasonmc/forked-daapd ... nt-3331508 thanks to elwertk and CBGoodBuddy's instructions and code respectively

Admittedly my attempts to use this method appeared to fail several times so I am not actually sure about what got it working in the end.. :) But I thought I would just put this up here in case anyone else is struggling with the problem.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi pr1sm,

Did you ever solve the crackling audio issue, finally managed to get it up and running but now facing the problem of crackling audio on playback.

Thanks,

No I'm afraid not, as far as I am aware the new Debian "Wheezy" release has updated alsa drivers but when I tried to install Forked-Daapd on it it didn't work! I have been busy recently so not had a chance to figure out why.

I think the issue is just the drivers so hopefully the community will come up with a better solution, (If they haven't already, I haven't seen anything though.)

Let me know how you get on

Thank you for all the instructions for installing F-D, I have followed everything and it all appears to be working on Wheezy.

However, although in iTunes on my Mac I can see the RPi library and plays it with volume, when I am on an iOS device (iPad, iPhone all with iOS6) it does not.

I can use the remote app to access the library and it will start playing but I never have any sound. I can see a track playing but no sound even with everything cranked up.
In the log file I see:

[2012-11-24 13:49:56] raop: Failed to retrieve artwork for 'A Hard Day's Night' (794); no artwork will be sent
[2012-11-24 13:50:03] laudio: SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_DELAY failed (-32)[2012-11-24 13:50:21] dacp: Could not find requested property 'dacp.fullscreenenabled'
[2012-11-24 13:50:21] dacp: Could not find requested property 'dacp.fullscreen'
[2012-11-24 13:50:21] dacp: Could not find requested property 'dacp.visualizerenabled'
[2012-11-24 13:50:21] dacp: Could not find requested property 'dacp.visualizer'
Has anyone got any ideas, I'm sure it is simple but as a new RPi user I am well stumped.

Regards

There is a bug in forked-daapd which means it doesn't work with remote 3.0. You need to compile the https://github.com/treus/forked-daapd under armhf.

The issue is that clang for armhf has a bug in it too. I think you need to cross-compile but I can't seem to get that right.

Hi Everyone,

I have exact the same problem. In iTunes I see the new library, can connect and play sounds, but when I use remote there is no Sound coming out from the Airplay-Speakers. I use Sony SA-NS510 Speakers, and allways when I sent a remote control like "next", the LED on the Speaker lights up blue what meens that a control come there. But there is no sound :(

Any ideas how to fix that?
