i was wonderin if we could emulate ps2 as it hardware consists of a barely 300mhz prosessor!!

Try using it! I had the same idea - I dont see why not, The PS2 has a RISC style processor, so I assume that ARM will work too.

And to add to it, The Pi hardware is way better than the PS2.
Maybe someone could port the PS2 OS to the Pi so it would become a dedicated gaming machine

I guess it is not possible. It is very heavy task for Raspberry Pi. For example - in case of x86 emulation, Raspberry Pi is able to emulate only i386DX/25 Mhz, due to emulation of CPU, sound card, graphics card, etc. For example, i386/25Mhz is not able run DOOM II smoothly.

The OS wouldn't be open source. Unfortunately that puts this idea to a complete halt.

Yes, the fact that the OS is not open source is the thing that makes this project unfeasible.
note: I may or may not know what I'm talking about...
