rpi-update (SOLVED)

Fri Apr 26, 2013 1:57 pm

Today I ran

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo rpi-update
All went well and then it said

Code: Select all

 *** Running ldconfig
 *** Storing current firmware revision
 *** Syncing changes to disk
*** If no errors appeared, your firmware was successfully updated
*** A reboot is needed to activate the new firmware
[email protected] ~ $ sudo reboot

Broadcast message from [email protected] (pts/0) (Fri Apr 26 13:02:45 2013):
The system is going down for reboot NOW!
[email protected] ~ $
And it shutdown

It didn't reboot.

I have a Red PWR LED on
and a Green ACT LED that flashes 3 times, pauses and repeats.

I checked the psu and it has a good healthy 5 volts.

I have 13 files in my boot partition.

Code: Select all

drwxr-xr-x 2 user root 16384 1970-01-01 02:00 .
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 2013-04-26 16:54 ..

-rwxr-xr-x 1 user root 137 2012-09-18 13:40 issue.txt

-rwxr-xr-x 1 user root 2697652 2013-04-26 12:56 start.elf
-rwxr-xr-x 1 user root 3661380 2013-04-26 12:56 start_x.elf
And now I'm stumped.

Any ideas?

Your boot partition is corrupted. This seems to happen, if you update from a certain version.

Different solutions have been given in the forum. Simplest one is to do a repair on a linux system. Search the forum for more information.

There were problems with a couple of updates in March which could cause problems with later updates but it's now fixed. I found it easy to fix using my Windows laptop. More details about the problem and how to fix it here. and a bit more here.

Thanks Guys, I just copied the 13 files out of the boot partition to a folder on the hdd, deleted the 13 files off the sd card and then copied them back.

Unsure how this affected a cure but cure it it did.
