getting to command line

Wed Feb 27, 2013 12:26 pm

I bought a preloaded SD card which doesnt pause for me to log in at the terminal, but goes directly to the graphical screen. Can I stop it soing this(it didnt ask me to log in- raspbian); or can I get from the graphics screen back to the terminal. All the icons and the launcher button are off the screen due to overscan.Vendor of the card cant help, but he did send log in details with the card, so it shouldnt have gone to the graphics screen as it did.Is there an easy fix or do I send the card back?

Do you have another system to hand to can ssh from into the Pi?

If this other system were Windows then get of copy of Putty or install Cygwin and have ssh from the command line.

The proceed from a ssh-shell to undo the stuff you or do not want. Or simply burn your own SD afresh which would probably be quicker.

While in the GUI, press 'Alt', 'CTRL' and 'F2' (*) keys simultaneously. That will switch to a console where you can log in. Press 'Alt' and 'F7' to get back to the GUI.

(* Typically any of the F1 to F6 keys can be used. Using F1 will go back to the original console where the GUI was launched from. This is a general Linux thing. )
