I am using:

/opt/vc/bin/tvservice --off
Powering off HDMI

To turn off the HDMI monitor I have. It works as expected. The monitor after a few moments goes into power save mode.

When I attempt to turn it back on using

Code: Select all

/opt/vc/bin/tvservice --preferred
Powering on HDMI with preferred settings

The monitor changes from power save mode to normal mode (and stays that way), but the screen remains black.
Status says its back on

Code: Select all

/opt/vc/bin/tvservice  -s
state 0x12001a [HDMI CEA (16) RGB lim 16:9], 1920x1080 @ 60Hz, progressive

The only way to get it back is reboot.

Anyone have any ideas?

Found my own answer. I needed to do this after HDMI was turned back on

fbset -depth 8; fbset -depth 16
