Raspbery Pi doesn't work via HDMI - D-SUB cable

Hello

Yesterday I turned on my Raspbery Pi / Raspbian for the first time. Unfortunatelly it works properly only when it is connected to TV via video cable. When I have it connected to LCD display via HDMI to D-SUB cable display is all the time standby / no signal mode (it cannot to be waked up).

Is my Raspbery Pi broken? How to confirm it or exclude it?
Any suggestions?

I have used this cable:

PS. I have tried with two 17" LCD monitors, one Samsung, second NEC.

This cable is designed for VGA to HDMI only it doesn't work backwards, you will need a converter box to view your Pi on a VGA monitor i.e. http://www.amazon.co.uk/HDMI-Audio-Vide ... ef=sr_1_11

A strange cable! Doesn't look like it has any electronics in it at all. Hard to imagine where it could be used successfully.
