prasberry pi not booting

Wed Jan 30, 2013 8:32 pm

Hello,

I tried to look for info and all info seems to indicate a problem of the sd card reader. I have a 256 MB raspberry pi (V 1.0 B1.1 - had been resting a bit) that doesn't boot.

I tried 3-4 different SD-cards of which 1 (high speed) has been reported as functional (I used multiple images: archlinux, debian, ...) and none boot. I'm using an adapter that was delivered with the pi (from rs), so this shouldn't be the problem.

The power-led is red and the sd led is constantly green. I tried to fiddle a bit with the sdcard-contacts, but nothing seems to work. The network light isn't on, no screen, no dhcp-requests, ...

Is it broken or is there something I could check (voltage-check or so?) to determine what the exact problem is?

Thanks,

Michel

I would check that you are writing the SD cards correctly. If you put one of them in your card reader and plug it into your PC what files can you see on it?

Just drag and drop berry boot onto a freshly formatted card; try booting from that. No special "dd" commands are needed, and if it doesn't boot, then you know your rPi is broken for sure.

I have completed most of the booting process, however, at the last step when I must reboot, the screen gets stuck at "Performing an on-line resize of /dev/mmcblk0p2 to 7803648 (4k) blocks."

Are you waiting long enough? It does take some time, especially if it is a large SD card like the 32 Gbyte that yours appears to be. Does the green 'ACT' LED still flash?

It is 32 GB. And the green light does not flash, but it is on. And ut has been about an hour now. This is the first time I have waited this long. Thanks.

It shouldn't take that long. After the first time that you rebooted, have you just been pulling the power and rebooting or have you reflashed the SD card and started again each time? I recommend that you reflash and start again as an interrupted resizing may have corrupted the file system.

I have actually reflashed it each time. But it has actually worked now after a 2 hour wait. Thanks for all the help. I think you were right. It took long because it was a 32 GB card.

Hey,

when I put the sdcard back into the pc, I can browse the files on it ... Everything seem to be just fine.

I'm using dd to transfer it indeed, but lik eI said the sdcard doesn't seem to be read from.

So, I'm just going to assume it is broken after all these attempts. I'll see if I can get a new one ...

Thanks for the help.

Michel
