Monkey HTTP webserver

Tue Jan 22, 2013 3:09 pm

Hi! I searched the web and could not find any tutorials about how to install Monkey HTTP on the Raspberrypi. It would be great if I could get a guide becuase using

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install monkey
is not sufficient. I'm currently running with lightpd and it is great but I hear that Monkey is faster.

Thanks

I believe you need to compile from source and then follow the instructions on the Monkey Web Site

I will always assume you are running Raspbian for desktop and Raspbmc for XMBC !

Hi,

this is Eduardo, Monkey author and one of the core devs. At this moment i am planning to distribute a "special" Monkey for the Raspberry, this should be distributed in a .deb file with some nice things on it.

This is work in progress so please stay tuned :)

Hi,

i just cooked a Monkey 1.2.0 .deb package for the Raspberry Pi. I have not tested this package as i do not have a board yet, so if you can give it a try and send me some feedback would be appreciated. On that way once we release Monkey 1.2.0 we will be able to distribute the Raspberry Packages from our repository. You can find the package file here:

NOTE: The Monkey version is taken from the GIT repository, that means that's under heavy development.

Alright here is my feedback,
1) I move your .deb file over to my RPI then attempted to install with both dpkg -i as well as gdebi but to no avail
2) The error i'm getting is, so far, a need for a more recent version of libc6, I only have 2.13-37+rpi1 not 2.15
3) Sofar I'm unable to get to the required version of libc6.

first time poster. Just got Rasp running.
My target is to use it as www-dev server (mediawiki, php, mariadb).
Up until now i used ubuntu/apache2.
And are looking around for an alternative. so monkey would be tried, in my case, for the 3 things mentioned above.

I just tried out Monkey (or gave it my best shot) but can't seem to get it running correctly. I'm no *nix genius though, so maybe I just missed something.

I'm running an up-to-date Raspbian install, and attempted to install Monkey today. I followed the instructions from http://monkey-project.com/raspberry/ and was able to install Monkey using:
sudo apt-get install monkey
but attempting to do the same with any of the plugin packages gave me "E: Unable to find package [plugin]", where plugin is the name of any of the plugins. Maybe these were automatically installed? I have no idea, and there's nothing in the limited documentation available.

I was able to confirm that Monkey works by pointing a browser to the Pi at port 2001, and the built-in tests work for CGI and path navigation, but fail for PHP. After begging for help on the IRC channel without a single reply, and scouring the Internet for /anything/ that might be helpful, I think I'm stuck. Where is the default install path for the plugins? Is there a way to confirm they are installed and are activated? It appears you can designate these if you build the app from scratch, but you are left guessing if you use apt-get. :(

Anyways, I'd strongly advise non-unix gurus to pass on this until the documentation is a little more fleshed out. Right now there is *very* little support available and the few bits and pieces I found on the Internet were out of date. This has been a painful day...

Hi,

I am the Monkey author. I have read your post and i would like to help you to fix the current problems, it will need a bit of troubleshoot as i suspect there is something wrong as you cannot get the repository packages.

In order to stable a better communication to help you with the issues, please send this problem and questions to our mailing list[0]. During the weekends its a bit difficult to reach us on IRC and the mailing list is a good place to keep track of every anomaly with Monkey stack..and more eyes is good too.

note: PHP support is given through the FastCGI plugin, so it require a bit of configuration, we apologies for the lack of documentation on that area, i will put that in higher priority in our site.
