boots on old board but not on new one

Mon Jan 21, 2013 11:17 am

hello,
I have 4 raspberry pi-s.. I would have thought that the sd cards would be portable across boards.. but I found that my 8gb samsung works fine on both old (china) and new UK boards.. but my 16gb emtc sd card only works on the old board not on the new uk one.. ie. it won't boot just red light.. what is going on?? they are both class 10 cards...
thanks for any help on this ..

The RAM chip on the 512 Mbyte RPi's isn't supported by old firmware. I don't know the exact date, but would guess that any OS earlier than about October 2012 will have the problem.

Thanks.. I will update when I get home from work.. I will start with the apt-get update / upgrade and hopefully it will pull in the appropriate firmware.
