Unresponsive 3 minutes after boot

Wed Jan 16, 2013 6:39 am

I am having the following issue, I lose connecting to Pi around 3 minutes after it boots and the only remaining LED lit is the red one. It appears to unresponsive to ping, ssh etc. Reading the troubleshooting I don't have access to a multi meter at the moment to test the power supply. (PSU is the one from RS). I also never appear to get a HDMI output at all, not even during boot. If I check the logs it seems to be restarting?

Jan 15 23:02:16 raspberrypi kernel: [ 25.504402] smsc95xx 1-1.1:1.0: eth0: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex, lpa 0xCDE1

Jan 15 23:16:07 raspberrypi kernel: imklog 5.8.11, log source = /proc/kmsg started.

Since I don't have a multi meter too hand, what else can I check, FAQ says to wipe the SD card and start again. This is the SD card with the OS already installed from RS.

I have got a little further with this. Removing the case (a standard plastic case) the Pi now remains stable. If I try to run sudo apt-get update/upgrade it then crashes from what I can tell. All LED's go off except the PWR, device does not respond to ping etc. I then have to reboot.

**EDIT** It has now just crashed again whilst sitting on idle

I have also just re-install the OS on the SD. It booted into the GUI then died promptly..

Might be a faulty Pi but I would check those voltages first, funny things happen when the board is underpowered. Also, I had various problems with one particular SD card that Pi didn't like. Filesystem got trashed each time so I would only get some semi-stable operation on the very first boot and even then things would randomly fail or take ages to complete. Do try a different (and by that I mean both capacity and manufacturer) SD card as well.

I think it is a faulty Pi. Put my SD card in a colleagues Pi and it was running for over 30 minutes without issues. Put their (working) SD card in my Pi and it crashed with in around 5 minutes. Time for an RMA I guess
