VNC Black Screen With 'X'

Mon Aug 10, 2020 7:12 pm

I have a Raspberry Pi Zero (not Zero W) and set up SSH and everything else, so PuTTY works great. My problem is with VNC Viewer.

I changed the resolution to the max setting using 'sudo raspi-config', enabled Desktop Boot, and also enabled the VNC, all through PuTTY (I don't have a Raspberry Pi display).

When I start VNC Viewer and connect to the Raspberry Pi IP address, I am presented with the login page (image attached below). No problems yet. But after I log in, the screen turns black and has an 'X' cursor, and after about 30 seconds, it goes back to the login screen. Other times, after the login, it also says "Cannot currently show the desktop".

I've been searching and trying troubleshooting ideas for the past 3 days but nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any ideas? Please, anything is appreciated! :)
