HDMI stops after random delay from few minutes to few hours

Fri Jul 17, 2020 5:47 pm

Issue : All is in the subject's words !

HW: RPi 4 2 GB, distribution : (Buster) Openplotter 2.3.0,
Screen: EYOYO 12", HDMI mode : 1080p/60Hz, 16/9.official HDMI cable,
GPU has 124 MB memeory
Application used : OpenCPN 5.0 and 5.2
Resolution : DMT mode 82 : 1920x1080 60Hz 16/9
Pixel doubling : No (was yes at first, change had no impact)
GL Driver not enabled in Raspi config, but selected in OpenCPN 5 optons.
(BTW impossible to rebuild the texture cache : this closes the option panel ! )

Did you try turning off the screen saver?

Yes  , but even screen saver shouldn't shut down HDMI without any possibility to restart it !

That's true. I had an HDMI screen that was getting old and the back light would fail to come back on after the screen saver turned it off. Sometimes I could get it working again by fiddling with the power switch and repeatedly turning the monitor on and off. Therefore, I disabled the screen saver and the monitor worked for about a year longer before finally burning out completely last March. Given the epidemic I've yet to get a new one. I hope that's not what's going on with your monitor.

My monitor is only 6 months old, one of the retro lighting led is down,, the lest side is darker than the 3/4 else, but it is quite usable ...
No, the issue lies either in the Raspberry HDMI, or in the power system : I use a Tobsun module, 12/21V to 5V 5A 25W

This post to summarize the situation:

The issue : RPi4-2GB, Argon one case, running OpenCPN, distribution Openplotter2, the HDMI signal disappears after 1 h or more : screen display : 'No Signal', the Raspberry is still running, I can connect to the AP and retake control with VNC.

I tried the same µSD card in another RPi 4 (4GB) not using the Argon case : same issue !
Seems the Argon case is innocent this time.

I noticed what looks like a bug with OpenCPN 5.2 : in the options of OpenGL, hitting the button 'Rebuild texture cache' results in the brutal closure of the 'Option' windows, so I stopped trying to use OpenGL with OC5.2, however the issue happened again though at a lower frequency (e.g. : after a few hours) !

All my tests have been done with 3 different µSD cards, all generated from 2020-03-24-OpenPlotter-v2-Starting-img.zip.
All µSD present the issue, but cco-forumers, using the same img don't have the problem !

The power supply is a TOBSUN 5V 5A 25W, voltage measured in charge : 5.191 to 5.195 V : +/- 2 mV, always well higher than 5.1 V ...It is powered through an UPS.
