I know there is a simpl answer - USB HD Question

Wed Jul 08, 2020 9:53 pm

Team

Ok, I have a raspi4 2GB runnning the 05/27 RASPI-OS nothing really thrilling.

I was working on getting all my files organized and setup the way I wanted, you know my mp3s on one drive videos on another etc.

Than I did that ting that will kill any well planned project - I moved.

And the pros I paid to move my stuff were very careful, but not very organized, so I have taken MONTHS to locate things that should have been within reach from day 1, and of course labels were ignored.

SO i start to get everything put in its place and all my mp3s are on one drive and KODId away!

Now for my videos, well those were on several drives, the lables of which were not maintained so i plug them in and see whats on there. UNFORTUNATELY, my setup isnt exactly as it was. For example I didnt have this many RASPI4s when I started so there were a bunch of customizes 3's linked up, but thats not to be at the moment.

I believe I have unboxed the majority of my USB Hard Drives, BUT I am encountering a big issue. MANY of the plug in fire up and immediately generate a mount error.

so I break out my copy of gparted and seee my 3TB deive listed with a bang on 2 partitions:
PARTITION NAME FILE SYSTEM LABEL SIZE FLAGS
/dev/sda1 Microsoft reserved partition unknown 128MB msftres
/dev/sda2 Basic Data partition ntfs Seagate Expansion Drive 2.73TB msftdata

Now, a few things: 1) My prmary PC for 15 years has been a linux mint desktop, with various laptops of some windows some Mint installs
2) In most cases these drives were all plug and play
3) many were on my Mint desktop at one point or another, a FEW of them ay have been used on a Win7/10 laptop for short
periods of time.
4) This is the big one. I have a genetic disorder that forhe last several years has TRASHED my short term memory

I add that last because as some of you may try and help or offer suggestions I may not have information that is blatently obvious to most folks.

Just for grins, I have plugged some of these externals into a win10 PC just to see if THEY could be read, and they are not even recognized as being plugged in?

I have probably 30TB of data amongst these drives, so any valid ideas are REALLY welcomed.

Thanks

J

MANY of the plug in fire up and immediately generate a mount error.
But what is that error ?

Kernel/system messages available with the "dmesg" command after you plug in the drive could also be useful.
