Raspi 4B unable to load command line interface

Hello,
I've never tried using anything but the standard Raspian GUI default boot. However, I tried changing the settings to boot to CLI already logged in. When I tried to reboot, the CLI would appear momentarily, then the monitor would go black. Sometimes the pi repeatedly did this (briefly showed CLI functioning, then screen went black), but never successfully worked. I have never had any issues using the terminal from the GUI, also never had any display issues before this. The raspi is booting, the display just isn't working, as I can enter "startx", and the GUI will load with no issues.
I also tried using CTRL+ALT+F2, and the screen just went black.
Running Rasbian on a Raspi 4B.
