NOOBS WiFi Connectivity

Fri May 15, 2020 2:54 am

Does anyone know why WiFi under NOOBS would not connect? I have tried both the password method and the WPS method and neither works. The connection progress bar just sits there and swooshes back and forth until I cancel the connection attempt. Thank you.

wow what a helpful reply.....

no i'm not too far. interesting how when i'm booted in to raspbian there is no problem with wifi. Only in NOOBS. If anyone has any actually *helpful* replies that would be nice. what is it with these communities and their useless condescension?

what do you expect, your not actually giving any info at all.
what model rpi?
your setup condition?
anything informational.

why do you even need noobs if you have it working on raspbian? a straight raspbian install is the way to go.

deleted duplicate copy, please don't!

also provide adequate information when asking a question, for example the type of RPI you are using is essential.

Is it a country thing?
2.4GHz or 5Ghz?
Which channel?

Do you really mean NOOBS or do you mean Raspbian Buster installed with NOOBS.
NOOBS isn't a full OS, it's a cut down system that runs an installer for other OSes.

@dougie - it' a good question (because many people say NOOBS when they mean Raspbian installed via NOOBS). But I think in this case, the "swishing back and forth" of the progress bar is indicative of NOOBS rather than Raspbian.

IIRC NOOBS, uses simpler regulatory information, and I don't remember a country code being specified in wpa_supplicant.conf, so I suspect the problem is connecting to an SSID channel that is not valid for the default settings (is it channel 12/13 on 2.4GHz, for example?).
Maybe changing the channel number of the wifi access point would help (e.g. to channel 6)? I'm not sure about 5GHz channel number restrictions.

There may also be problems connecting to Enterprise setups or hidden SSIDs.
