P4 won't boot up

Thu Apr 23, 2020 1:23 pm

Hey folks, new to all this and would really appreciate help.

I got a Pi4 B and I have 2 SD cards, onw 32 and one 64. I tried to install on both the recommended Raspbian distro from the imaging tool on a Mac. Right after the installation I added the ssh file and the wap_suppliment.conf to the boot directory - I don't have a mini HDMI monitor and I'm hoping to SSH to it and use it headlessly.

The Pi had a Sense HAT attached to it (not sure if relevant)

When start the device ( which is really annoying with USB C cable for some reason it won't start unless you plug the cable really slowly? )
The Sense HAT has a rainbow on it, but from memory of past Pis it should turn off as soon as the OS starts. It never does. And I am unable to ping ranspberrypi or find it in my router. I tried:
- Plugging it directly to the router via LAN
- WiFi connection didn't work
- Ran the recovery module from the image tool (EEPROM)

Any suggestions? I can't even see any log files as the filesystem doesn't have var/

How do I know if the OS even booted up

THANKS,
:)

If the ssh file disappears then the RPi has booted.

Also, wpa_supplicant.conf, not what you have typed.

What are you using as a USB C power supply? (or why are you plugging in/unplugging out the USB C cable?)
Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

The files does not disappear :|

I use a MacBook Pro power adapter.

it has not booted. Possibly no logs.

Read the "not booting" sticky, including but not limited to the specifics for RPi4B.

Until a recent hardware revision, RPi4Bs do not work with USB-C PSUs that have PD or with emarked cables. However that situation should be obvious from the red LED not illuminated on the RPi4B.

I plugged it directly to the laptop and still no luck. The red LED is not showing any issues, it's on consistently.

I've tried Ubuntu now and still doesn't seem to be working.. Nothing in that sticky boot article either. :|

Any pointers?

If you really read the not booting sticky you would know that the green LED gives some clues but you have not thought to report those.

The Official Power Supply would at least be a step in the right direction:

Rather than negativity think outside the box !
RPi 4B 4GB (SSD Boot)..
Asus ChromeBox 3 Celeron is my other computer...

I got it now, but it still not working for me :(

Are we sure that if the Pi booted fully the ssh file and wpa file will be removed from the root folder?
