how to use xarchiver to extract files with same file name?

Sun Mar 15, 2020 6:12 pm

i have a tar archive, that contains multiple files with the same file name in different versions.
e.g. creating that kind of tar archive:

Code: Select all

echo test-1 > test.txt
tar -ravf test.tar.xz test.txt

echo test-2 > test.txt
tar -ravf test.tar.xz test.txt

echo test-3 > test.txt
tar -ravf test.tar.xz test.txt

echo test-4 > test.txt
tar -ravf test.tar.xz test.txt
to extract all versions of files from command console:

Code: Select all

tar --backup=numbered -xavf test.tar.xz
but how can i open the individual files in xarchiver?

when i double-click to each of those test.txt files, i always get the most recent content in the editor (with "test-4").
same, when i click extract selected file, i only the the last version of the test.txt with "test-4".

i have the newest Raspbian version installed and upgraded.
{ I only give negative feedback }

That's an issue with many programs - when you have multiple files of the same name, you run into trouble.

Solution: Change the filenames to be unique. If that's not an option, then you'll have to extract the entire archive and open your files using File Manager.
I've coded up a little program that helps you manage Raspbian images and SD cards.
It's Pi-Power-Tools.
Features: Boot your image in a VM, Flash from the Internet at top speed, Mount (to drop files in), Edit partitions, Shrink, Expand, Repair, and more.
