Help - Strange eject message won't go away on Buster

Mon Feb 10, 2020 4:06 pm

I was going to test the SDcard Copier on my RPi4 with Buster in order to make a backup of the current state of it.
So I put an SDcard into a USB carrier and inserted it into a USB slot.
Then I remembered that the carrier was kind of flakey on the micro slot so I decided to use another slot in the carrier so I extracted it and moved the card from the small slot to the big slot using the adapter that came with the card.

Then I returned to my VNC session with the RPi only to find a gray panel covering the upper right corner of the screen saying:
"Drive was removed without ejecting.
Please use menu to eject before removal"
No matter what I do this message stays put and I have no idea where the menu it refers to is located either.

What is the deal here?
Do I have to reboot the RPi4 to get rid of the message or is there really a menu somewhere to eject a usb drive?
If so, where is it located???

Open an lxterminal and run killall lightdm, it's crude & ugly but will restart the desktop.
