Incorrect Password ssh??

Fri Dec 21, 2012 4:05 pm

Hello All

I have installed Occidentalis v0.2 in an SD and fired up the Raspberry pi. I have not
made any further configurations since the keyboard i have is not recognized.
Thus i have decided to run the device headless.
However when i try to connect through ssh (putty from Windows) in order to run the initial
configuration i am asked for a username/password.
I give as you propose username:pi and password:raspberry
and i get "Access Denied".
Do you have any idea what it may goes wrong?

After receiving the "Access denied" message, hold Ctrl and right-click on the PuTTY window, then select Event log. At the bottom you will see what exactly caused the failure.

Is it prompting you for a password 3 times?

It could be the user does not have rights for ssh access

Does Occidentalis have a 'pi' user account, perhaps you need root instead??

Same results with the official OS. Have tried both.

Did you run sudo raspi-config and enable ssh? Just a shot in the dark on that otherwise try typing the password first just to make sure the keys are mapped correctly delete what you type then go with pi and password.

I cannot run the raspi-config because the three keyboards i have tried do not work even with a powered hub! That's why as a last resort try to connect through ssh. The SD contains a fresh install of the latest official raspberry pi OS.

In order to overcome this issue i am trying to connect to the raspberry pi str8 from the putty.
Thus i am prompt for a username/password and i provide the pi/raspberry with no successful results.

Problem solved.

I have replaced the usb power cable and the keyboard was detected successfully.
Hence i have configured the pi and it now works headlessly.

I'm in the same boat. I really need the initial password / login for Occidentalis so I can shell in.
