]Hello and thank you to anyone who can help. I got a raspberry pi 4 4gb for Christmas and I went to power it up today, the powerport fell of stuck on to the power cable (also raspberry pi brand). Can anyone point me in the direction on how to resolder it on or should I contact support??. It looks like the original soldering was almost none existent https://imgur.com/a/iOVG835

Contact your vendor for a return/replacement, you should be able to RMA that one (as long as you didn't use excessive force to rip the connector off).

Looks like adequate solder to me. If you had the tools and skill to solder that back on you wouldn't need to ask how. Soldering that back is not the case to learn on.

Whether you get a warranty replacement or have to pay for another, it will suffer the same fate if it receives the same treatment as this one did.

It surprises me that no pads were lifted off the board.

As drgeoff says, there appears to be enough solder on the pads, but the picture isn't sharp enough to tell whether there's any evidence of the pins having broken away from the solder - cratering of the solder surface - or never having been in contact in the first place - smooth convex surface.

My feeling is if none of the pads were lifted then the soldering probably wasn't very good to start with. A good solder joint is normally stronger than the glue that holds the copper to the PCB substrate.

Connectors are often problematic in soldering because they have a large thermal mass and so often don't get as hot as other components.

I would contact wherever you bought it and begin a warranty claim, that's not been soldered properly.

There are alternative power methods available, if you decide not to go via the supplier for a replacement.

I used the Raspberry Pi as normal, sorry that the image wasnt sharp but none of the pins where snapped. I was using the raspberry pi as a retro arcade system so the most likely treatment i would of given it was overheating, I wasnt being rough with it or giving it any special treatment as Ik how fragile the boards can be. I have also been using the Raspberry Pi 3 b+ the exact same way for over a year now, was just changing boards for the better processing power. I have contacted the Store and given them images so I'm just waiting on a reply

I'd expect no argument whatsoever from the vendor, that was a cold solder job, could have been caused by a few different things none of which are your fault. The part soldered before yours might have come out fine, the one after it almost certainly didn't solder at all and failed QC.

Yours was the unlucky one that mostly sorta got soldered, put in a box and shipped. An old school QC tech would have pulled the few that went through before total failure happened for a proper look over, given the port a wiggle and had it break off then and there. But I'm guessing this is all done by non human type things these days.

No part of the Pi board should get anywhere near the melting point of solder regardless of what you did with it.

Make sure to wrap it up in original packaging so that company can't refuse to take it back.

Hey there,

Today same thing happened to me. I also was usinng the official power adapter. At first I noticed the power wasn't going to the pi when i insert it normally, i only got power when pushed it to the right a bit. i installed the case and was willing to use it like that.

but after a while it stopped working competely. and when i removed the case the port just fell off.

I think it warrants a quality check of production lines. it not only fell but was also defective. the foundation's luck hasn't been great with the new usb-c port somehow :p first the lack of resistor and then this.
