My Raspbian OS lost all its menu items (except a few)!

Hello everyone,

I have a Pi 2 running a (mostly) up to date Raspbian system.
I used the image for a while, and everything was fine
(except for crashing my system by RAM overloads) for a while...
Then, one day I booted up my system, and all my menu items
except the "Main Menu", Wifi & Bluetooth indicator, time,
and CPU Monitor were gone... :? Is there a way to replace
those items back on the menu bar (I don't know what to call it!)?
I tried dragging the terminal icon from the Main Menu to the
"Menu Bar", but the system woulden't let me place it there.

My system seems still functional, but I am a little worried - did I
partially wreck my system???
