File Corruption

Mon Dec 17, 2012 6:23 am

A lot of users have reported a problem with files become corrupted from over clocking. But I think it can happen even running at stock.

My own experience;

512mb board running openelec xbmc;

To start it was believed that overclocking the gpu was the cause, if I overclocked it by even 1 it would corrupted the ext4 partition first reboot. But if I only overclocked the cpu too 800, it would corrupt the ext4 partition too after a few reboots. But even running at stock it eventually corrupts.

I have used different SD cards so I dont think it is a faulty card.

I have run openelec on a 256mb board with much more aggressive overclocking and never had a single instance of corruption.

Other users have reported boards that were able to overclock quite high and never experienced any corruption are now starting to find every reboot they suffer corruption. Is this because firmware has changed and even more R-Pi's are susceptible to corruption.

I dont understand where the fault lies, is it that some hardware is not very reliable or is the firmware the cause of this issue?

Bump

Quite a few people have this with 512MB. Have the R-pi made any comment on the issue?

Hello,

I have bought RasPi 512MB recently. I am using dynamic overclocking & overvolting (CPU 1000 MHz, RAM 600 MHz, GPU 500 MHz). I also experienced a problem with corrupted filesystem in the past. To make the story short - I just unplugged power while the system was running (as it was "recommended" in one article). Even though ext4 is journal filesystem this is definitely a good practise. Since I am using "sudo shutdown -r now" before unplugging I have no problems. Cheers, Macky
