[Fixed] File Manger shows spaces as %20 on network shares

Tue Dec 10, 2019 7:39 pm

hello,

i am using raspbian from 2019-09-26 on my RPi4.
when i open the default file manager and type in the address of a samba share like "smb://192.168.1.100/share" and browse its folders, there seems to be a strange behavior in showing file and folder names in the file view.
all spaces and german special chars are shown like %20, %xx, where xx the "ascii?"code is.
the strange thing is, that the file names and folder names only appear that way in the file view.
in the "address"/path bar, the current folder name is shown correctly with its correct characters, without %xx.

the samba share is on a linux based system (LibreELEC 9.2) with ext4 file system where the share sits (shared files and folders).

1'st: how can i get the file view of the file manager t show the correct file/folder names, without the %xx ?
2'nd: why ae the strings interpted differently between address/path bar abd file view in the file manager - in one and the same application?

Have you run sudo apt update; sudo apt dist-upgrade -y recently. There's been some fixes to PCmanFM.

yes, yesterday night the last time.

... and now.

nothing new.
same behavior.

when i try to rename the file in the text field is is shown with %xx as well. when i replace all %20 by spaces, the filename still shows up with %xx formated spaces.

You seem to be using an IP, is it being treated like a website?

( %20 is a space)

yes, but why is it handled in one and the same application in two different ways?
on the title bar and address/path bar it is always correct, but in the file view area and the rename text field it is shown wrong.
and the rename text box is even worse. it show the original file with %xx but needed real spaces as input, otherwise it will encode the %20 to %2520.

locally stored filenames and foldernames with spaces in it will show up in the file manager correctly. only the file/folder names of the smb will be shown incorrect.

PS.: i have a real NAS (not a self made one), files/folders form that samba share will show up also incorrectly with %xx formated characters. so LibreELEC can not be the reason.

i tried out PCmanFM on my PC by using debian-live-10.2.0-amd64-lxde.iso.
there the share looks normal:

this "phenomenon" only exist if the network share is accessed via PcManFm ( from the menu -->Go --> Network --> . . . . )

however if the network share is mounted via fstab (cant vouch for systemd method), those "cryptic codes" are not evident anymore, .....meaning the spaces appear as spaces, and not some codes. ;)

Same problem here..

I also get %20 for every space after mounting a network share. My Synology NAS uses AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) and no SMB. I could use etc/fstab.conf to create a permanent mount but does anybody has a suggestion how to add a proper afp network share ? Last time I tried my Pi wouldn't boot anymore. :?
