Assuming you're running standard Raspbian with desktop:
- which version?
- did you reboot after update / upgrade?
- try running 'pcmanfm' in a terminal window. It may give some error messages / warnings, etc. If it does: post the full message here.

Recent updates include pcmanfm, lxpanel, pipanel and raspberrypi-ui-mods. I haven't updated this Pi yet, so I'll take an image and install them one at a time to try narrow it down.

:D I saw the reporting information displaying on terminal when it was upgrading. but I could only know they were successfully upgraded then it prompted me to reboot and choose the appearance's setting. After reboot, the file manager could not use then.

Same here. Just set up a new pi 4, downloaded all the updates, etc. The File Manager opens for a second and then disappears.

Hi Pete051,

Thank you very much for letting us know the solution to the broken File Manager issue.

My question to you is how did you come up to this solution? Are you a member of the developers of Raspbian?

I am new to the Raspberry community and would like to know how issues are to be dealt with.

When the instruction "apt-get dist-upgrade" is run, it is accessing some files somewhere. Where are these files located?
Please direct me to the information to the upgrade.

Thank you very much.

Bonjour
Mon historique:
message: 00:36:12.051: X-terminal-emulator has very limited support. consider chose another terminal.

Apt is the command line tool for installing, removing, updating and otherwise managing the software packages that make up the Debian distribution. It's something you really want to know about.

After I did "apt-get dist-upgrade" and tried to open File Manager without restart, the whole desktop just froze and I had to pull the plug. After upgrade and restart the result is the same, File Manager closes right after opening, running pcmanfm in terminal shows no error messages.

Same issue here.

Did a simple

sudo apt-get upgrade

And PCManFM immediately crashes when I click on „preferences“ in the menu. Sometimes I don’t even get to the filemanager window because PCManFM crashes/closes the window immediately.

For now I just did a reinstall and didn’t upgrade the packages anymore. This way pcmanfm still works as intended and without issues.

This is a big problem for me because I use the Pi2 and Raspbian as a system & device for my daily use. It’s my „desktop“ PC.

I also want to mention the bug that with a fresh install of Raspbian Buster right now, you can’t mount LUKS encrypted hard drives without first installing the package libblockdev-crypto2 and doing "systemctl restart udisks2.service"
This is a known bug from LXDE it seems:

Please use

Code: Select all

apt full-upgrade
rather than

Code: Select all

 apt-get upgrade
This should fix the problem.
