NOOBS & PINN detecting USB3 HDD but says there's not enough space?
I have a 3TB WD Elements USB3 HDD that I use, everytime I try and use NOOBS with it and/or PINN, it see's it fine but won't install to it. I'm lost...
I clicked yes that it would be formatted for use and it always says I have 0MB free when in fact there's nothing on it and has been freshyly formatted!

What gives?

try https://github.com/procount/pinn/wiki/Troubleshooting to try and identify "what gives" when you use PINN.

What format is the HDD?

I think the problem is that both NOOBS & PINN require a disk to be partitioned using an MBR (Master Boot Record).
The maximum size of an MBR based disk is 2TB.
To go any larger requires a GPT (GUID Partition Table) based HDD, which NOOBS/PINN do not support.

To go any larger requires a GPT (GUID Partition Table) based HDD, which Raspberries, plain Raspbian, any OS and NOOBS/PINN do not support.
FTFY, you're welcome.

Hey Dougie - are you sure about Raspbian and other OSes?

This old post from 2013 -> GPT Partitions on Raspbian suggests that Raspbian can handle large GPT drives. I've never used a drive >1TB on a Raspberry so I'm clueless.

When it comes to booting a Raspberry you haven't a choice. It can only boot from FAT12, FAT16 or FAT32 with an MBR partition table.

If you connect a drive as external storage then GPT is fully supported by the stuff in the Linux kernel.

So we need more context from the OP as to how the drive will be used.

Oh yes, I agree with you with respect to booting. I mistakenly thought you meant in the wider sense.
