I got a new SD card and flashed Buster onto the card and went about getting things working.
It is a headless machine, but the HDMI port has a HDMI- Composite converter so I can get audio output.
That is then sent to the sound system for playback.
Once, the other day, I had it working and VLC was working. I could play songs and all was good.
Today when I access the machine - either via CLI ("Terminal") or VNC, when I load VLC, it flashes on the screen and then nothing.
Ok, from the CLI it doesn't flash on the screen.
Reading another thread on VLC I tried VLC -v.
That was no better in helping me.
Trying the next step I try these commands:
Code: Select all
[email protected]:~ $ vlc -v VLC media player 3.0.8 Vetinari (revision 3.0.8-0-gf350b6b5a7) [email protected]:~ $
I did it twice because the first time all I got was a *pop* in the speakers.
Code: Select all
[email protected]:~ $ sudo aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Mono [email protected]:~ $ sudo aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Mono [email protected]:~ $
Second time it played - well, it kind of did.
On the main machine - this one - I do that command and I hear (quite clearly) "Front center"
On the Pi, I hear "Front cent", or maybe "Front cen"
Never the full sound.
I haven't really done anything to it, and it seems the audio is working, even if it is not playing the entire sound. Just to make sure it is playing out the right device.
In the raspi-config program I have the audio forced to HDMI as per the instructions.
Option 7 - audio output.
Thanks in advance.
