Pi4 not seeing HDDs attached to HUB

Hi all,

Probably a quick solve problem but cannot find anything on this issue.

My Pi4 recognises my 2 x HDDs when attached directly to the device.

However when I then connect them to a powered Hub, they are not recognised by the Pi.

The hub is USB 2.0 and a specific one for the Pi (made by PiHut).

DMSG identifies the hub but not the HDDs.

Any thoughts?

there are some USB3.0 hubs that dont work well with the RPi, you could have gotten the "unlucky" one.

could be a typo on your part
"...connect them to a powered HDD..."
should have been
"...connect them to a powered USB hub..."

are your HDDs self powered (12v) or bus powered?

I have edited my original post.

The USB hub is 2.0 and is powered. It’s one made for the Pi (all worked ok on Pi3B).

Which ports are you using on the Pi 4 when you connect the HDDs? Have you used the drives on a Hub with a Pi 3?

I have tried both the 2.0 and 3.0 ports on the Pi (and no other devices attached). Yes, it worked on the Pi3 no problem.

Also, just to add, it's not just the HDDs that the Pi fails to see connected to the hub, it's also other things like a USB pen drive.

Is it just a problem with this particular hub?
Do you have a different USB2.0 hub to test (with the pendrive, since that's a less demanding device in comparison to a HDD).

Strangely, I think it’s the USB Hub that has failed. I connected to another laptop and it isn’t recognising the usb devices either. Thanks for all the help anyway.
