Pi not getting IPv4 address, though I can connect via ssh

Sun Sep 15, 2019 2:51 pm

Hello.

I'm bulding a project with Pi Musicbox on 3B+.

Everything worked fine for 3 months until last night, when it mysteriously stopped getting an IPv4 address from my router.

Sometimes it still connects, but the router does not even display it in the list of clients, but I'm able to connect via ssh using hostname (musicbox.local).

How do I troubleshoot it?

I have an arduino on usb, and a button and a rotary encoder over GPIO.

Once you are on the Pi can you issue

Code: Select all

ifconfig
in the terminal - this will show you the IP details.

My guess is the router needs the classic IT solution (off and on again).

Thanks for suggestion.

However, I tried `ifconfig` and there I see no IPv4 address, only IPv6.

Tried on/off as well.

You could have IPv4 disabled or the DHCP server is not giving out addresses...

May be worth checking the contents of /etc/dhcpcd.conf

What version of the OS are you running?

Nevermind, resolved for now, by installing a fresh slate of raspbian on another SD card.

Bit of a sledgehammer trick that one

Then again, its not a real job without using a hammer...

Glad you're going - shout if stuck again.
