Did I kill my brand new Pi 3+ B? Can it be fixed?

Thu Sep 12, 2019 5:49 pm

Hello. I loaded the OS on my Pi and it booted up fine. I may have accidentally plugged a 20mm fan ( the dual case cooling fans), across pins 1&2 (3v and 5v). Now all I get is a power light. Will not boot. Pin 1 is dead. Did I fry the board? Can it be repaired? Thanks

It is almost certainly dead. The PMIC (power control chip) doesn't survive having its 3.3V and 5V outputs connected together on the 3B+.

Can it be repaired?,
In theory yes. In practice no. You cannot do it yourself and assuming you could find someone who can source the PMIC and is able and willing to replace it, the total cost of part, transport and labour will exceed that of a new RPi3B+.
