I'd like to know how to undo an unimportant effect of the change from Stretch to Buster. As you can see from the screenshots, with Mrs-Lovett running Stretch and Buster-Lovett running Buster, the view of my network in pcmanfm has changed with the change from Stretch to Buster. I'm using the same /etc/samba/smb.conf (except for the deletion of hosts in name resolve order as required by the newer version of samba). I'd prefer to not have the double encoded versions (that %2520 instead of a space in the names). If you borrow down, folder names and files have %20 instead of a space in their names. Is there a hack to get back the old behaviour?

On the Mac, the new version of the server comes up as a question mark in finder - was fixed many years ago but now back

Long term releases can be a bit of a pain some days...

You could try

mangled names = no
dos charset = CP850
unix charset = UTF-8

changing the character sets for your national language to see if that helps.
