VLC Stops and then won't do anything

Thu Aug 15, 2019 4:32 pm

I am running VLC on a Pi I have hooked up to a TV, and a hard drive with almost 5000 videos on it. Ideally, I just want VLC to play on shuffle nonstop forever, but eventually what always happens is it gets to the end of some video and just stops. There doesn't seem to be any thing the videos have in common, length file format, etc. At that point VLC won't do anything. I can't skip to another video, I can't even exit the program. The only thing that works is rebooting the Pi. I kept a list for a while of the videos it would stop on, thinking maybe they were broken, but when I went back and tested them they all worked just fine.

I'm not necessarily married to VLC, I'd be happy to try another program, but I consistently see that VLC is supposed to be the best. I have had a number of issues with it but this is the most vexing. I have tried purging and recompiling a few times using this

Any suggestions?
