Fri Jul 12, 2019 3:43 pm

New install.

[email protected]:~ $ uname -a
Linux pi3b 4.19.50-v7+ #896 SMP Thu Jun 20 16:11:44 BST 2019 armv7l GNU/Linux

/etc/fstab entry to access share on old Synology server:
//192.168.1.110/RaspberryPi /home/RaspberryPi cifs vers=1.0,credentials=/home/pi/.smbcredentials,iocharset=utf8,sec=ntlm 0 0

mount error: cifs filesystem not supported by the system
mount error(19): No such device
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)

[email protected]:~ $ sudo apt-get install samba-client
Note, selecting 'smbclient' instead of 'samba-client'
smbclient is already the newest version (2:4.9.5+dfsg-5).

[email protected]:~ $ sudo apt-get install samba-common
samba-common is already the newest version (2:4.9.5+dfsg-5).

[email protected]:~ $ sudo modprobe cifs
modprobe: ERROR: ../libkmod/libkmod.c:586 kmod_search_moddep() could not open moddep file '/lib/modules/4.19.50-v7+/modules.dep.bin'
modprobe: FATAL: Module cifs not found in directory /lib/modules/4.19.50-v7+

[email protected]:~ $ cat /proc/filesystems
returns everything but CIFS

[email protected]:~ $ find /lib/modules/ -name cifs.ko
/lib/modules/4.19.57+/kernel/fs/cifs/cifs.ko
/lib/modules/4.19.57-v7+/kernel/fs/cifs/cifs.ko
/lib/modules/4.19.57-v7l+/kernel/fs/cifs/cifs.ko

[email protected]:~ $ sudo depmod -a
depmod: ERROR: could not open directory /lib/modules/4.19.50-v7+: No such file or directory
depmod: FATAL: could not search modules: No such file or directory

Any suggestions?

reboot your Pi.

Notice that you're still running 4.19.50 but the 'find' sees the files in 4.19.57
I think new kernel was installed in the last update/upgrade and you did not boot your Pi after that.

Hi, I have same issue with buster:

[email protected]:/mnt $ uname -a
Linux rpi4 4.19.57-v7l+ #1244 SMP Thu Jul 4 18:48:07 BST 2019 armv7l GNU/Linux

[email protected]:/mnt $ find /lib/modules/ -name cifs.ko
/lib/modules/4.19.58-v7l+/kernel/fs/cifs/cifs.ko
/lib/modules/4.19.58-v7+/kernel/fs/cifs/cifs.ko
/lib/modules/4.19.58+/kernel/fs/cifs/cifs.ko

I have rebooted my rpi4 several times after latest updates.

Should I upgrade kernel or find old version of modules? How to continue?

Thanks

Standard update / full-upgrade should get everything to 4.19.66 (IIRC).

To fully upgrade Buster:

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
sudo apt full-upgrade
sudo reboot

just finished setting up my RPi4B-4G with Raspbian Buster with Full Desktop

...and successfully mounted my samba shares from RPi2BNAS, Rock64NAS and RAID1NAS
the cifs shares were mounted via /etc/fstab
un-mounting and remounting using mount -a also works

this is how its setup in fstab (same ones I use in RPi2B, RPi3B and RPi3B+ that are still using Raspbian Stretch)

Code: Select all

//192.168.191.240/HDD2      /media/pi/R64NAS2     cifs    credentials=/root/.cifuser,nofail,vers=1.0,x-systemd.automount   0  0

I did fresh install of buster lite with NOOBS to rpi3b, using sdcard only. Upgrade worked well in this fresh configuration. Seems I have to reinstall my rpi4 from scratch...

Thank you all for support.
