Raspberry Pi 4 Blank screen after installing Raspbian

Thu Jul 11, 2019 4:04 am

I just got a new Raspberry Pi 4 and a blank 16GB MicroSD card. I downloaded NOOBS v3.1.1 and put it on the SD card, then put it in the Pi and plugged in the power. At first, nothing showed up on the screen, but I was able to fix that by creating a config.txt file and adding the line hdmi_edid_file=1.

After that, I was able to see something on the screen, and I installed Raspbian. When Raspbian finished installing, I got a message that the OS had successfully installed, and I hit Ok expecting it to reboot. However, after I hit Ok, the screen went blank and there is no HDMI signal.

I've seen a lot of forums that suggest uncommenting and adding lines to the config.txt in the GUI before installing Raspbian, but nothing I've tried has worked.

If anyone has any idea what the problem could be, please let me know!

Thanks in advance,

I would not use NOOBS to install Raspbian, just download the version you want, write that to SD using Etcher (no need to unzip / format the SD card) and then add hdmi_edid_file=1 to the config.txt of that copy.

I think the issue maybe that the change you made only applies to NOOBS not any subsequent OS that is installed but I only used NOOBS a couple of times and then gave up with it

Make sure you have connected HDMI cable to HDMI-0 not 1.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.

Hi there,

Do you have any update with this issue?

I ran in a similar problem with my new Raspberry Pi4 B. Here is what I Did:
1. Prepared SD Card with Rasbian Buster (Sept.2019)
2. insert SD Card and switch pi 4 on

After that the Rasbian starts normal with graphic on screen and over vnc.

After ONE reboot... the display is gone....no splash screen, no VNC Display....nothing.....

This drives me mad... because i can log into the raspberry via ssh without problems!

First idea was that die sd card is not working properly. But I checked this with my pi zero and here the splash screen and display and vnc worked perfectly!

So back to the pi4....I tried the sd card again with my pi 4 and no display, no splash screen, no VNC...

Then I plugged the sd card in my windows 10 and the drive manager said:
” there are some issues with the drive, should I run a diskcheck?”
I’ve chosen YES.
After that I tried the sd card again in my Pi4 and.....IT WORKED. All was there display, splash screen, VNC....

But then after ONE F***** reboot, same sh** again.... no display, splash screen, VNC... only ssh....

I tried 3 different SD cards (8gb, 16gb, 64gb) and I tried 3 different PIs (pi zero w, Pi3b, pi4b)

I’ve had this problem only with the new Raspberry pi 4b (4gb ram).

Can someone help me please? Or is someone having the same problems?

I am having trouble connecting my raspberry pi model b to my Acer Monitor or my tv. I tried using a converter from a hdmi port to a vga port but it still shows black screen with no display. I have tried configuring the the configure.text but it still didn't work. Please help if you have a solution. I have tried installing noobs on one sd card but still no display. I have also tried installing through the raspberry pi installer on another sd card and there is still no display. Please help raspberry engineers or people out there. I have tried looking at Raspberry Pi's contact page but didn't find any phone number to contact or chat with someone. Please let me know if you need any more information regarding my topic!! PLEASE HELP!!!
