High temperatures on Raspberry Pi 4 running only Pi-hole

Thu Jul 04, 2019 4:03 am

Hello my RPi 4 1GB is averaging about 70C while only running Pihole. I'm on Raspbian Buster Lite.

Code: Select all

sudo vcgencmd measure_temp
temp=70.0'C
uptime
21:01:57 up 57 min, 1 user, load average: 0.05, 0.15, 0.09
Is there anyway to reduce these temperatures?

Thanks

That certainly seems high for Pihole .
For comparison , I'm seeing 41'C on a Pi ZeroW.

As someone else has mentioned on this forum ....
with a new OS version running on newly released hardware , it's important to isolate one of
those factors , to get some insight into what's cooking .

As soon as I saw the Pi4 4GB I thought ..... "Do I want it ? " .... YES !
"Do I need it ? " .... NO , not immediately anyway

All of these reports of high running temperatures make me want to hold off for a while .
I've read that firmware updates are already in the pipeline .

I was having similar heat problems with PiHole and solved it by fitting a heat sink. There are a number on the market but get one with long cooling fins. I also leave the top of the case off and have a small 12V 80mm case fan running at 5V, mounted beside the Pi and I get 28 Deg C with an ambient temperature of 25 Deg C. Hope that helps

Just out of interest ..... can you recall what temperature the Pihole was running at
before fitting the heatsink and fan ?
