i2c Enable causes fatal error

Tue May 21, 2019 8:28 am

Just did a fresh install of 2019-04-08-raspbian-stretch-lite
When I run raspi-config and enable i2c it says it is OK but when I exit I get this message

Code: Select all

[email protected]:~ $ sudo raspi-config
modprobe: ERROR: ../libkmod/libkmod.c:586 kmod_search_moddep() could not open moddep file '/lib/modules/4.14.98-v7+/modules.dep.bin'
modprobe: FATAL: Module i2c-dev not found in directory /lib/modules/4.14.98-v7+
How can I fix this?
Thanks
Mick

Just download a fresh copy of raspbian lite and tested it on a pi3B, i2c enabled no problem , no error messages.

and the interface is running

Code: Select all

[email protected]:~ $ lsmod | grep i2c_
i2c_bcm2835 16384 0
i2c_dev 16384 0
I would try a fresh download and re flashing the SD card as a first fix.

Yes that has fixed it. Don't understand why, but there are more important things to worry about :)
Thanks for your help

Have you performed a software update (sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade)?

If so, did you reboot afterwards?

The update could have installed a new kernel and matching modules and deleted the old one, but the old kernel will still be in use until the system is rebooted.
