Report: 3.6.7+ issues

I'm running firmware revision d27ca5e5f1c3a94a0a1311e4c0dd86644f0acacc, the bleeding edge git stuff. I was trying to recompile the kernel to have a build base for my out-of-tree DVB dongle driver. Since that takes time I just run it during the night on detached tmux session.

The actual source/build directory is on NFS share that I mounted - I don't want to stress my SD card, and it's a dedicated 100Mb LAN segment to my Linux router so equally as fast. This time I also started DVB-T stream to see how stable it would be and how long it'd take to build the kernel like that.

In the morning I found that I can't SSH to my Pi and it's not reachable by ping. TV was unusable due to frozen overlay from omxplayer taking up all screen (now this could've happened in the morning where I lost power to my DVB-T antenna, but I know that once the stream is gone the player will not pick up even if the power is back - I tested that earlier). So I assumed the USB link is gone and just cycled power. I did try to unplug/plug back Ethernet before that and the link LEDs did go off and on again. Didn't help though.

This pretty much fills my log until the reboot in the morning. So the Pi did not die completly, in fact the last DHCP request to my router was sent at 04:32:38 Pi time. Cron was running as well. The last entries before the reboot:

I have no idea why TCP was non-functional at this time but with all these errors anything could've happened. I am running my Pi overclocked but this is the first time I saw anything like this.

Same thing (page allocation failure) happened during another build run during the day, and this time it was the only task I started. Curiously the build took some 30min longer than usual but it finished successfully. Well I can't say much about the integrity of these files but there weren't any fatal errors or anything.

The Pi does slowly break down as this happens though, things no longer work as supposed to. For example plugging in a DVB-T dongle got noticed by kernel, all syslog entries looked good, but the tzap could not be run - complained about not being able to open/create /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0. Free showed tons of free RAM and not a single byte of swap being used. Again, a reboot fixed it.

I'm going to try again with overclocking disabled.

More swapper: page allocation failures even with default clocking. This is the last straw I'm afraid, going back to 3.2.27+ now. I like this new CMA stuff and DVB-T drivers but unless my Pi actually survives the night it's not much of use.
