[Solved] Pi 1 Model A not booting Raspbian Lite 2018-11-13

Thu Mar 14, 2019 9:25 am

I have two old (ancient?) Pi's Model A, which I use in air quality displays. Due to the issues with WiFi dongle I needed to flash new SD card with current version of Raspbian Lite. The problem is that version from 2018-11-13 does not boot on my Model A boards (ACT LED does not blink), while it does boot on Pi 1 Model B. I checked two different power supplies and tried system in vanilla state and after upgrade to most recent state.

Any help or suggestions much appreciated.

This probably isn't what you want to hear but "it works for me".

I've just flashed an SD card from that image, booted it on a Pi 1B then on a Pi 1A with a monitor attached. The ACT LED flashes during boot but goers out once boot has completed.

No other hardware connected, and the boot appears to complete when the monitor is disconnected too.

Could there be a hrdware problem with your model A Pi?

Thank you for your help. I just run a bunch of tests and solved this puzzle.

First of all I was trying to find a version of Raspbian Lite which will boot. When I got back to the version from 2015 without luck I was sure that this is a dead end and the problem needs to be somewhere else. Where? It turned out that the faulty SD card was a problem. I tried another one and it worked. Why I haven't checked that earlier? First of all this faulty card boot on Pi 1 Model B, which is a very similar hardware to Model A. Moreover, I have a second identical SD card bought in the same time, which does boot on Model A. It's always difficult to investigate when something malfunctions only in certain circumstances.
