I was looking a little at GLFW yesterday and a guy at http://discourse.glfw.org/t/glfw-on-rpi ... pengl/1215 claims 2.1. But maybe it's not using the Broadcom hardware version. I'm not sure what the stuff he has on Github actually does, I didn't try it, don't know how to. I'm not interested in software OpenGL, that's been around 20 years or so. I want to utilize the GPU hardware.

The Broadcom libraries are EGL 1.4 and OpenGL|ES 2.0. To use OpenGL 2.1 would need the MESA drivers (or a shim), Eric Anholt's drivers are MESA based and use the RPi's hardware as much as possible, I think it is OpenGL 2.1 but with a few features missing due to the hardware not supporting them.

Maybe, but you can't buy one in the US because it doesn't do ATSC so it won't work. It does DVB-T or something like that, only useful in Europe. Our TV isn't worth bothering with anyway. Not marketed here. I have an ATI HD-750 "TV Wonder" USB dongle that was a total waste of $20 or so. Can't find any drivers for it, Windows or Linux, never had it working. I have a Happauge (I think) card that plugs into a PCI slot (circa 2002) that does work, might be able to do SDR. Never got the DVB working on the rtl2832 dongles either.

Of course doing fft on the QPU's and allowing the VC4 to write to framebuffer memory is a NICE featureBecause of the DMA-interface which has no MMU between the GPU and the RAM, code executed on the GPU can access any part of the main memory! This means, an OpenCL kernel could be used to read sensitive data or write into kernel memory!
