ZeroW wlan0 issues

I'm having a nasty issue with the built in wlan. When I ssh in (all my pis are headless) It connects, then hangs, then fixes itself, then eventually just fails and drops the connection.

Wired via usb-Eth works great.
WiFi via a RT5370 works great.
Tried the pi-update, country is correct, power save is off. AP is a Ubiquiti AC variety.

Ideas?

Does your raspberry pi receive enough power?

It's hard (but probably not impossible) to starve a Pi0/Pi0W for power.

Link Quality=70/70.
The AP is 15 feet (3m) away and line of sight.

How are you powering the RPiZW?

or, to rephrase the question

from where is the RPiZW getting it's 5v power from?

next question:

is your RPiZW in a metallic case? any case? no case (bare naked)?

Can't buy it doesn't have enough power argument since the USB WiFi adapter works flawlessly (aka: even more power consumption) But has a 5v @5amp psu (that was my first course of action)
Bare board hanging in the air. Just power, hdmi (only to verify boot until this is fixed) and USB wifi adapter (also until this gets fixed) No keyboard, mouse, etc connected. I can't say for sure, but think BT is off too.

These can't be *that* sensitive to RF polarization. (reminiscent of Apple's "You're holding it wrong" :) )

Also thought it might be my mac, but same issue from Ubuntu & Kali machines.

OK, so we may rule out the power source as cause.

Only this particular RPiZW having WiFi disconnection?
Is the on-board WiFi configured to get IP address via DHCP or set to static (via /etc/dhcpcd.conf)?
If set to static, can you confirm from your router's client monitor page if there is any IP conflict with other devices?

DHCP, but I use quasi-static. I make DHCP reservations for all IPs (for the most part)
I seriously doubt its prob with my LAN : Cisco 2851 router, couple Cisco catalyst switches, Ubiquiti AP, and DHCP served via Synology NAS. The main wifi is wpa-2 enterprise/radius, with the IoT junk on wpa2-psk. (pi on the IoT segment)
Problem is the on board wlan. (USB wired or wifi works fine)
Gonna try a few more Zeros and see if its across the board.

No deauth packets flying about either.

(3 out of 3 Zeros so far have the issue)
