auto-login and autostart broken after upgrade (2018-11-13)

Sat Nov 17, 2018 7:39 am

hi,

i just upgraded my raspbian stretch with

Code: Select all

sudo apt update -y && sudo apt upgrade -y
as usual.
i do it nearly weekly by hand on my raspbian stretch installation of 2017.
but this time my raspbian does not auto login to the user interface anymore.
the user interface shows always the login screen and i have to log in manually.

just after initial raspbian stretch installation in 2017, i changed the user/groups name from default "pi" to "userX",
the home folder was renamed from default "pi" to "userX" as well.
and all other names pi to beta-tester...

it was never be a problem in the past...
never was auto login broken the last two "big" raspbian releases between 2017 and now.

i tried to run Raspberry-Pi-Configuration, but there is shown
Auto Login: [x] Login as user 'pi'
but not
Auto Login: [x] Login as user 'userX'
as i guess as it should be.
see attachmen Raspberry-Pi-Configuration

like in raspi-config, the terminal counterpart of Raspberry-Pi-Configuration
see attachmen raspi-config
that fixed the auto login to the user interface.

after that fix, i realize, that my autostart file in ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE-pi is gone.
there is .config/lxsession/LXDE-pi/desktop.conf instead.

i copied a backup of my autostart file to its old place and that fixed the autostat problem as well...

but why was it all broken on an upgrade...?!
and i thought i have to do a dist-upgrade to get deeper changes, where i would expect those kind of issues...

PS: sorry for all the mess with the attachments...
it is not my fault i hope...
i can't delete them anymore

It is not due to the recent changes to "Raspberry Pi Desktop' desktop environment ?????

After the update Raspbian now uses this autostart:

Code: Select all

/etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart
The change to xdg was mentioned in the blog.

You can still use the old location in /home/pi/.config.........
If autostart is present in the /home/pi/.config... area then the one in /etc/xdg/..... will be ignored.
It is very important that the autostart, whichever one you use, contains these lines:

Code: Select all

@lxpanel --profile LXDE-pi
@pcmanfm --desktop --profile LXDE-pi
@xscreensaver -no-splash
point-rpi

..
I always use sudo apt upgrade only. Rarely if ever does running sudo apt dist-upgrade pull anything more if done right after apt upgrade.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.
