laptop can't "see" the usb drives attached to pi

Sat Nov 10, 2018 9:37 am

Until yesterday, my W10 laptop had no trouble accessing the drives attached to my pi (set up using "Map Network Drive"). The pi had to be rebooted (not a problem, done it before), but this time none of the drives could be accessed. So decided to delete the connections and start again. Checked the pi's IP address, it used to be something sensible like 192.168.0.10, but now it's something like 169.254.251.52, and when I enter that into the "Map network drive" box, it doesn't find anything. I know I can transfer stuff using a pendrive, but I really liked having those attached drives to use in "normal" folders. Pi is LibreElec/Kodi.

If you need more information, let me know how to get it for you and thy will be done.

Thanks

Thinking about the mapped drives is a distraction. The real issue is why isn't it connecting to the network and getting a "real" IP address. The 169.254.x.x address indicates that the network device (not sure if it is ethernet or Wifi) isn't able to connect to a DHCP server to get an IP address.

You need to debug that.

Now, the fact that you're not running a normal Linux on your Pi may be contributing to the problem. I don't know anything about how LibreElec/Kodi works - or how its networking is setup.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I don't know to "debug that"!

It is an ethernet connection.
