Connect to Kindle with file manager

If you plug a Kindle e-reader into a Ubuntu box (using a USB cable) the Kindle is mounted as removable media in Nautilus automatically. On a PI running Stretch I can't figure out how to do the same thing with the default file manager. I have all the auto-mount options enabled in Edit|Preferences|Volume Management. Am I missing something?

In filemanager menu [Go] --> [Network]

No, that doesn't work. All I see there are my Ubuntu box and other machines on a Windows network using Samba.

does a cli lsusb list the kindle when connected?

No, there is nothing from lsusb and there is nothing in the output of dmesg that seems relevant either. Again, for reference, when plugged into the Ubuntu box lsusb lists the Kindle as one of the connected devices. Could this be an Android issue? I tried plugging in a Kindle Fire and a Barnes & Noble Nook with the same results. And just to check, plugging in a flash drive worked as expected.

hmm swap over the usb cable? clean the usb port( pi and kindle) with a cotton bud and isopropanol or similar solvent?
fwiw i just plugged my kindle into a pi-0w with a very dodgy usb/nic hub and the result of lsusb was..

You got it. I think it was lack of power. I pulled one of my dongles (Bluetooth, which I don't need right now) and voila! I'll have to use a powered hub when I connect the Kindle.

good news..
perhaps the kindle was drawing too much power as it was attempting to also recharge its battery, mine was fresh off a charge up so handy to plug into a pi to test.. perhaps a fully charged kindle will work with your btooth adaptor too..
