SOLVED: Chrome using too much memory, help!

Tue Sep 04, 2018 7:11 pm

Hello, with 4 chrome tabs open on my raspberry pi, task manager says:

207.3mb, 114.1mb, 75.4mb, 65.3mb, 40.2mb, 16.3mb, 9.5mb, 7.5mb. this is each chromium-browser process. Chrome eats my memory like a chocolate bar. Does anyone know how to get fire fox, or decrease the memory usage by chrome? I have cleared cache recently on it.

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
sudo apt install firefox-esr

Though Firefox is no better, if not worse....

Maybe try Dillo Browser, though it has limitations ?

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
sudo apt install dillo

Chrome used 535.6MB for 4 tabs, firefox is using 242.5mb for 2 tabs. Noticable difference ere

Browsers may be better or worse in memory management, but the real culprits are the web designers. There must be some new paradigm like "if my website uses less than 100 MB it's not modern web design".
Minimal Kiosk Browser (kweb)
Slim, fast webkit browser with support for audio+video+playlists+youtube+pdf+download
Optional fullscreen kiosk mode and command interface for embedded applications
Includes omxplayerGUI, an X front end for omxplayer
